Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

HEIRÉE wants everyone to be able to browse, shop and get help on heiree.com, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, speech input or other assistive technology. Accessibility is something we work on continuously rather than treat as finished, and we would rather tell you plainly where we currently fall short than claim more than we can stand behind.

Conformance status

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.

heiree.com is currently partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that most of the standard is met, but some content does not yet fully conform. The specific areas we know about are listed under Known limitations below, and we are actively working through them.

What we have done

  • Built the store on a theme that supports keyboard navigation, visible focus indicators and standard page landmarks.
  • Included a "skip to content" link so keyboard and screen-reader users can bypass the header navigation.
  • Declared the page language so screen readers pronounce content correctly.
  • Used semantic page structure — a single main content region, labelled navigation, and headings that describe each section.
  • Applied accessible names and labels to interactive controls such as buttons, form fields and the cart.
  • Announced dynamic changes — such as an item being added to the cart, or a form error — to screen readers via live regions.
  • Made an accessibility toolbar available on the site, offering options such as larger text, a larger cursor and contrast adjustments.

We want to be straightforward about that last point: an accessibility toolbar is a convenience for some visitors, not a substitute for an accessible website. We do not treat it as evidence of conformance, and we do not rely on it in place of fixing the underlying issues below.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following and are working to resolve them:

  • Image alternative text. Some product and lifestyle images do not yet carry descriptive alternative text, so their content may not be conveyed to screen-reader users. We are reviewing our full image library.
  • Heading structure. Headings on some pages are inconsistent — a few pages lack a top-level heading, and on others the heading levels do not follow a strict order. This can make navigating by headings less predictable.
  • Video captions. Video content on the site, including customer-created videos featured in our social gallery, does not currently have captions or transcripts. Customer videos are supplied to us by their creators and we cannot always caption them at source; we are working on an approach for this.
  • Target size. A small number of secondary controls are smaller than the recommended minimum target size, which can make them harder to activate accurately on touch screens.
  • Third-party content. Parts of the shopping experience are provided by third parties — including checkout, payment, reviews and embedded social content. We do not control their code and cannot guarantee their accessibility, though we do factor accessibility into which services we choose.

Compatibility

heiree.com is designed to work with recent versions of major browsers — Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge — on desktop and mobile, used together with assistive technology such as screen readers and speech recognition software. The site may not work as well in browsers more than a few versions out of date, or with older assistive technology.

Technical specifications

Accessibility on heiree.com relies on HTML, CSS, JavaScript and WAI-ARIA. The site depends on JavaScript for some functionality, including the cart and product options.

How we assess accessibility

We assess heiree.com through a combination of automated testing, manual keyboard-only review, and review of page structure and alternative text. We re-check after significant changes to the store — including changes of theme or the addition of new apps. This statement reflects our most recent review on the date shown above.
